UCLG-MEWA PRESIDENT’S VISIT TO ISTANBUL ON 26-27 SEPTEMBER
Tayseer Abu Sneineh, UCLG-MEWA President and Mayor of Al-Khalil in Palestine, paid a visit to the UCLG-MEWA Secretariat General in Istanbul. The UCLG-MEWA Secretary General Mehmet Duman received the President in the presence of Yücel Yılmaz, Mayor of Balıkesir and UCLG-MEWA Vice President. A delegation from Deajeon, South Korea, Led by Lee Jang Woo, Mayor of Daejeon, also interacted with the President.
The first day of the two-day visit started with a meeting between UCLG-MEWA and the delegation of Daejeon. The meeting witnessed a general exchange of information about UCLG Congress which will be hosted by Daejeon on 10-14 October and the policies and strategies of UCLG-MEWA. Yücel Yılmaz, Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipaliıty, while interacting with the UCLG-MEWA President and Secretary General, deliberated upon the ongoing preparations for Habitat Day 2022, which is going to be hosted by Balıkesir and UN-HABITAT.
The delegation from Daejeon, the host city of UCLG World Congress 2022, also impressed upon the importance of hosting the biggest gathering of the Municipal Movement in the world and discussed possible cooperation and partnerships. Later on, the President visited Sancaktepe Municipality, which is a member of UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau, along with the Secretary General and team and was hosted by the Şeyma Döğücü, Mayor of Sancaktepe.
The second day of the visit was spent at the Secretariat General of UCLG-MEWA, and the President was briefed by the presentations prepared by the UCLG-MEWA team. He expressed his gratitude to Secretary General and praised him for his leadership and consistency. UCLG-MEWA Secretary General Mehmet Duman also assured the President of his full support and consideration for the Presidency term.
