Arab Towns Organization (ATO) held its 54th Permanent Bureau Meeting in Nouakchott, Mauritania on 17-18 March 2017. Mayors, ministers and representatives from more than 20 Arab states joined the meeting.
Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General and Mohamed H. Almahli, Media and Public Relations Coordinator participated in the meeting on behalf of UCLG-MEWA. Secretary General Duman gathered with Ahmet Al Subaih, ATO Secretary General; Amati Bint Hamadi, Mayor of Nouakchott, host city; Hasan Hamadi, Governor of Grand Comor, Comores; delegations from Tunisia, Palestine, Libya, Sudan, Djibouti, Somali, Morocco, Bahrein, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Duman, who participated in the administrative meetings as an observer member of ATO, stated that the cooperation to further the relationship between ATO and UCLG-MEWA would continue. Mr. Duman invited ATO members to also become a member of UCLG-MEWA.
The second day of the meeting continued with technical visits in Nouakchott. Municipality building of Nouakchott, Nouakchott National Museum and other important places in the city were visited by the delegation.
