Undoubtedly, 2021 was different from all previous years at every level, starting with the coronavirus crisis passed on from the previous year. In the face of these difficulties, as the UCLG-MEWA family, we had continued to work meticulously to overcome these difficulties in line with our responsibilities, led by an outstanding Secretary General and our expert staff.
We worked tirelessly and persistently, staying in constant communication with all our members in the Middle East and West Asia, while, at the same time, closely following the latest developments with the world organization under present circumstances.
We strongly continued our work and activities during the normalization process, and we held two important global events in our region this year: UCLG Culture Summit held in Izmir and the World Forum of Intermediary Cities held in Kütahya. We succeeded in making a difference in the world organization by implementing the agenda set by our section for this year despite all the obstacles.
As the President of this distinguished organization, I wanted to share my last New Year's message with you. I would like to take this opportunity to state that I will always be at the service of the new president to be elected for the next term, and that I will work towards the same goals regardless of my position.
I want to tell you, my second family, that I am proud of you.
Our goal is to build a better future, even if we have some mistakes.
This is our planet and we must protect it…
