Resilience Training of Trainers (ToT) Module II: Strategies and Actions

Following the first volume of the Resilience Learning Module, Fundamentals of Resilient Governance and Development, UCLG prepared the second volume of the module on Strategies and Actions. Within this context, UCLG’s Learning team held a 2-day workshop from 30 to 31 August 2021 to provide training for the facilitation of the second Resilience Learning Module to its different sections. The workshop was carried out for representatives of UCLG-ASPAC, MEWA, Eurasia, Africa, Europe, CUF, and LCP. The virtual sessions focused on practical strategies and actions for building resilient cities, regions and metropolitan areas through a hybrid methodology of lectures, interactive exercises and learning games.

The workshop was designed for section representatives who are actively engaged in capacity building and facilitation of workshops. Its primary purpose was for them to get familiar with the Resilience Learning module and its contents so they can proceed to organize, adapt, and facilitate workshops within their sections and target member cities and municipality staff. This ToT session was adapted to a virtual format given the pandemic and travel restrictions. Nevertheless, a highly productive and dynamic process made it a remarkable experience for everyone.

Together with the first volume, this second volume of the module has been developed by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) in partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and with the support of UCLG regional sections and the UCLG Task Force for Territorial Prevention and Management of Crisis. The module is a key tool of the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative, supporting the transition from awareness-raising to concrete resilience-building policies and actions.

The workshop was highly successful due to the high level of interest, participation, and engagement of participants to learn about the module and adapt it to their local context.
